James Wyatt
After almost 25 years as a game designer, I believe my next authentic step is to find a quarter- to half-time job as an Episcopal parish priest and take on the care of a congregation alongside my other work. I anticipate ordination as a transitional deacon in December, and I am looking for the right position in the right congregation.
James Wyatt is a Principal Game Designer on the Dungeons & Dragons team at Wizards of the Coast. His work at Wizards since 2000 includes five novels, more than 20 short stories, three poems, dozens of D&D game sourcebooks, nine Magic: The Gathering art books, and worldbuilding and creative text for several Magic card sets, including Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. He was a lead writer for the 5th edition Player’s Handbook and a lead designer of the Dungeon Master’s Guide, and worked on the 2024 revisions of both books. He was also a lead designer of Guildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica, Eberron: Rising from the Last War, Mythic Odysseys of Theros, Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, and Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants. Before working in games, James served for two and a half years as the pastor of Brilliant and Rush Run United Methodist Churches. After joining the Episcopal Church in 2015, he began feeling the urging of the Holy Spirit and the voice of the church calling him to return to ministry. He is now a candidate for ordination in the Episcopal Church.
In recent years, James has served as Senior Warden at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in Kent, Washington, as a trainer in the College for Congregational Development in the Episcopal Dioceses of Olympia and New York, as a volunteer chaplain at Providence Mount St. Vincent, and as a ministry intern at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in West Seattle.
